15th November 2017

This week it is my pleasure to interview Daisy Mae. Would you please introduce yourself to my readers and share something about your life?

Thank you Rita,  for asking me to write a guest post on your site. I’m a doctor, and a writer ... and as it says on my website  ... a very unprofessional ballroom dancer!

When did you write your first book and how did it come about?

I have always loved writing and had a house full of half finished manuscripts.  Suddenly I suffered a few major life events – I got divorced after 26 years, and lost both my parents to cancer in quick succession. I was 52, and on my own! So ... I decided to change my life around, and go internet dating! This was scary for me, who hadn’t had to think about dating for 3 decades, and wasn’t even very computer confident! Anyhow, deep breath, and I did it, and the experiences I had were so funny, I felt I had to write them down! So I started keeping a diary, which I don’t think I ever really thought I would publish!

I work in a sexual health clinic, so I wrote about my day job too! This added a certain spice to the book that makes it unique and quirky!

In the end Dating Daisy was published on 27th July 2017 by Clink Publishing. It is a fiction book, but based on my own experiences. All dates, names, places and details have been changed to preserve anonymity, and Daisy Mae is my pseudonym.

Do you always write in the same genre or do you mix it up?

This book is a chick lit book – romantic fiction. I have a second book Daisys’ Love Secrets being published 14/02/2018.

I would like to write a more serious novel, and am especially interested in crime writing.

When you write, do you start with an idea and sit down and let it evolve, or do you make notes and collect ideas on paper beforehand?

I just write when the mood takes me – which is more or less all the time! I used to write in the middle of the night as I couldn’t sleep! Now I sleep – thank fully – so I have to write at more civilised hours. I have found it’s been like taking a champagne cork out of a bottle! I just can’t stop and my head is always brimming with ideas!

I write on the computer. I prefer to write in silence. I usually have a topic or an idea, I might read around it a bit on Google, then .... off  I go and I just let my mind take over.

Would you like to give us a short excerpt from one of your books?

Daisy just can’t resist giving advice on various topics, for example Dating Daisys Kissing Tips, Advanced Kissing Tips and Anti-Snoring Tips!

So ... here is an excerpt from her Anti-Snoring tips ...

Dating Daisy’s Anti-snoring Tips

Ok, Ok. So it’s not romantic. End of.

He snores in a curiously enchanting way. Not a peep as he breathes in, but a cataclysmic earth shift as he tries to breathe out. It’s like the air trying to rush out of a leather balloon under pressure, a sort of suffocated pneumatic drill. Having said that, it pales to insignificance when you think about Voldemort, and Jeremy too, and I actually don’t dislike it. But he is worried about it, and too true, if it’s damaging his health, he needs to deal with it. So, I did my bit. Gave it my full attention.

I sat up and filled in the partner’s section on the snoring questionnaire. I couldn’t have tried harder. Where it said “partner’s name” I wrote Daisy, and it looked good, seeing my name on the paper next to his. Even if it was just a snoring questionnaire.

Now here apparently is the orthodontic solution – the Snore Guard. And it looks like it’s here to stay. Not ‘Marley and Me’ but ‘The Snore Guard and Me’, and I guess I just have to get used to it. (My sceptical self says the orthodontist has been watching too many horror movies, and has his heart set on a new Maserati, but heh ho! Who am I to cast aspersions?)

So, in all seriousness, if it stops the insidious sleep apnoea and the incipient heart failure and the probable premature death, not to mention it saves this relationship ... its fine by me. Really. Let’s just get our heads around it ...’er, quite literally! …

So – The Snore Guard. It’s a Hannibal Lecter anti-snoring contraption. None other. Designed to frighten off the nastiest of witches and vampires.

So what does Dating Daisy have to say about snoring and anti-snoring and the Hannibal Lecter headpiece?

Tip 1: ...

What is the best marketing tip you have received?

I would encourage authors to:

  • Get your book reviewed by as many book blogging and review sites as possible

  • Try and get some publicity – you need to get your name out there. Try magazines, newspapers, radio stations etc... and offer to write features for them.

  • Get as many book reviews of your books as you can on Amazon and Good reads

  • Try free book giveaways – this sounds ridiculous but can be successful

  • Use social media so people know you are there – Facebook, Instagram and Twitter

  • Make sure all your links work and readers can easily click and see all the work you are involved with.

  • Make sure readers know how to contact you. If they do, answer promptly.

  • Engage with other authors and do guest posts!

  • Join a book club. Start a book club! (I did!) Visit local book clubs. Try and get local awareness – I advertised in our local newsletter.

  • Have a blog and write regularly on it!

  • I am now looking at other resources like Book Bub, paid book review sites, Fiverr, Watt pad, Quora, Stumbleupon, Sprout etc..

  • ? Do a second press release? (
